CAMP BLOG
Hello from Camp Cadicasu!
A new season is now upon us with the promise of summer just around the corner! I know I can speak for everyone connected to the camp that we can actually feel the mounting excitement as we count down the days to the opening of the camp at the end of June! We are very excited and can hardly wait to welcome our first guests to the new Camp Cadicasu location!
Right now we are busy buying new bunk beds and other camp equipment, as well as completing the drywall, painting and finishing to the new buildings. We recently dug two wells for water and were lucky to be successful, so the showers and toilets will be working for sure!! Showers, I am told, are a good thing when it comes to summer, kids and hiking in the woods!
Registration forms being received indicates we are currently running ahead of the usual registration at this time of the year. Don’t wait too long to get your registration form into the camp for the time you want. If we cannot accommodate your request on your first choice of weeks, please put in a second choice so we can register you quickly! We will of course have a wait list in case there are any cancellations for each week, but cannot promise anything once the registrations show we are full for the week.
We are going to be running a slightly smaller camp this year from what we have in years past. We usually have between 100-120 kids a week stay with us, but this year we have decided to run a camp with 80 kids a week. Since this was going to be our first year in the new location in Kananaskis Country we decided that we wanted to ensure that we would provide the best activity program and care for each child by making the camp a bit smaller and more intimate. We have become very familiar with the areas surrounding the camp and had a team of Counselors map out the hiking trails and scope out the new favorite spots to go swimming, horseback riding and of course have the signature campfire each evening! The location promises to be a real improvement over what we have had in Bragg Creek and we are all very excited to see the kids enjoy the great outdoors this summer!
Right now, our biggest concern is raising the required amount of money to pay for all of the finishing touches for the camp. We are still running about $1.5 million dollars short of our goal of raising $3 million to fully re-build and furnish the camp for the future generations of campers. We have heard from alumni of the camp who are now sending their kids to Cadicasu with offers to help. We have also been in contact with many Calgary businesses to ask them for financial assistance. The help we need is slow in coming in, a sign of the difficult economic times many of us find ourselves in. However, we would ask that any donation is worthwhile and certainly would be appreciated. Please go to our Donations” link on the website to find out about how you can donate to the camp. Every dollar helps!
One of the first companies to step up to help is Winroc, a division of Superior Plus LP! This company has made a wonderful donation of supplying the drywall we need for the 15,000 square feet of living and recreational space. We are all so appreciative and send our thanks to the management and staff of Winroc!
Camp Cadicasu is a registered charity and does offer a tax receipt for all donations to help us re-build the camp.
If you know of anyone who may be interested in pursuing sponsorship for the camp please go into the sponsorship section of the website to find out more about the levels of sponsorships available as well as the benefits attached to each level.
We are willing to work with any potential sponsor to come up with a benefits package that would allow them to fully leverage and benefit from their involvement with Camp Cadicasu.
Any help would be appreciated! For more information you can contact Margie Schuett, Chairman Camp Cadicasu Board of Directors at margie@cadicasu.com.

Until next time, thanks for checking in with us and we promise to have new pictures up on the website of the buildings to show our progress very soon!
We will be in touch with you with another Camp Cadicasu Family newsletter as well as more news on our Camp Blog, so please keep in touch with us.
We encourage Campers and Parents to visit our Camp at our "Camp Cadicasu Open House" on May 30, 2010. A tour of the facilities and general orientation of the programs will be given with extra time to any parent who wishes to provide insight on their child to help make the camping experience even better for them.
Please take advantage of this opportunity to meet our staff and find out a little more about us!
Warmest regards,
Camp Cadicasu Board of Directors
