CAMP BLOG, MARCH 2008

GREETINGS FROM CAMP CADICASU!

We are sorry to advise you that Camp Cadicasu will not be open for our regular camping season in the summer of 2008. However, there is GREAT news! We are moving the location of the camp to a new location in Kananaskis Country which is filled with the wonder of nature and promises great new opportunities to share a magical camping experience for a new generation of Campers into the Cadicasu Family!

Why is Camp Cadicasu moving?

This is the most commonly asked question and one which we feel has disappointment, but also has tremendous opportunity for revitalizing the Camp after being in the Bragg Creek location for the past 77 years! The primary motivator to move was because of the need to rebuild the main building which housed the dining and kitchen facilities. The cost of re-building, and the phenomenal development taking place in the Bragg Creek community made it obvious that in order to maintain the ‘outdoor experience’ to the fullest, a more remote location was in order. So with passion and determination, a plan was developed to re-build and revitalize Camp Cadicasu for the next 77 years!

A few of the highlights surrounding this move include:
  • A new 15,000 square foot camp with facilities that will include a new dining hall and dorms to house and meet the needs of the campers
  • To ensure environmental sustainability for the camp
  • To expand our appeal to reflect the changes necessary to be competitive in the camp market
  • NEW toilets that work 100% of the time!
  • NEW showers where the water is ALWAYS HOT on demand!
  • Lots of new hiking trails and a great new campfire location which promises lots of fun nights of sing songs and laughter!
It is important to note that the camp spirit, tone and programming will not change significantly from what Cadicasu has offered to their campers in the past. It is our intent to maintain the best of what we have been and look for new ways to improve the quality of the camp experience for the camper, counselor and staff. Remember it is the people, not the buildings or location that make Camp Cadicasu so special!

The new location! Camp Cadicasu will be situated in the area known as Kananaskis Country. The new Camp is located 16 KM off Highway #1 on Highway #68 on the site of the old Jumping Pound Ranger Station just inside the Kananaskis county border and is 25 minutes west of Canada Olympic Park

Camp Cadicasu goals will continue to operate in the tradition of what has been the legacy of the past: To enable each person to see something positive about themselves; To enable each person to feel they have control in their situation; To provide opportunities for people to grow in understanding of each other through living, working and playing together; To promote co-operative living styles among people; To develop an acceptance for the cycles and the life flow of nature; To awaken a sense of awe and wonder toward our world in a natural outdoor environment!
