JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Camp Medic is responsible for:
  • For being a fully trained and accredited Medic (see link - http://www.medicfirstaid.us/index.php?page_id=26&PHPSESSID=fb42ca1d7a25a7b7e169425e3f52babc ) licensed to administer medications and service the general health care needs of the campers, staff and volunteers during their stay at camp
  • For the care of injured/sick children, staff and volunteers from the time of arrival to departure of camp
  • For the compiling, recording and maintaining of all camp medical records and seeing that at the end of the camp season, these records are given to the Executive Director in an organized, professional manner ready for secure filing
  • Reports directly to the Camp Director
  • For informing and keeping the camp Executive Director informed of all medical incidents on and off camp property pertaining to the campers and staff
  • For reviewing each camper’s application form and advising the camper’s designated counselor, camp cook and Executive Director of any pertinent information in regard to the campers’ health and medications
  • For maintaining the camp infirmary and ensuring it is staffed on a consistent, regular basis
  • For advising camp personnel at all times where the Camp Medic is located in case of emergency
  • For being in attendance at the arrival of the campers to discuss with the parent/guardian the child’s medications and medical instructions
  • For keeping an accurate written record of any instructions given by the parent/guardian either written or verbal in regard to the camper’s physical or mental health
  • For the distribution and administration of any medications
  • For assuring that the counselors carry out the instructions in regard to their camper’s needs
  • For the maintenance and inventory of all medical and first aid supplies
  • For the upkeep of all first aid kits used by camp personnel on or off camp
  • For assuring that all groups of children leaving camp property have a first aid kit and know how to use its contents in case of emergency
  • For acting as a “safety inspector’ making tours of the camp area every other day to check for potential and actual safety hazards
  • For a daily inspection of the children’s quarters and report to the Executive Director as to the condition of same
  • For the monitoring of the health habits of staff with an eye to prevention
  • For advising the Executive Director of any real or potential health risks to a particular staff member
  • For being an emotional support system to the campers or staff (“a shoulder to cry on”)
  • When time and duties permit, to act as a resource for other staff members on an as-needed basis
  • For safeguarding the goodwill of the parents and the community-at-large
  • For safeguarding the Camp Cadicasu Association of Calgary, Board of Directors and fellow staff members against litigation resulting from negligent behavior on his/her part
